SEGITTUR develops semantics for destinations to spread confidence in the face of COVID-19

This initiative aims to provide universal, standardised tools to allow destinations to digitally communicate and distribute relevant, detailed, standardised and up-to-date information about the health situation to their potential visitors.

The municipalities of Santa Susanna, Conil and Sanxenxo, members of the Smart Destinations Network, will be part of the pilot project, in which the work will be tested.

This project is based on standard UNE 178503 on Semantics for Smart Destinations, approved in August 2019, as well as the Manual for Tourism Semantics Best Practices, documents to which the new semantics resulting from this project will be added.

Data semantics will allow destinations to share a common, standardised framework with relevant information so they can communicate and gain confidence. It can be shared on different channels using one single form of technology, ensuring consistent communication.

Similarly, any tourist operator, online platform or intermediary authorised by the destination can consult, add or share the information on their own channels. For example, a hotel chain can add real-time information produced by the destination to its web platform.

Another advantage of data semantics is that it makes it easier for destinations’ bots or virtual assistants to read and process information.
