SEGITTUR and the COTEC Foundation for Innovation have signed a partnership agreement with the aim of jointly promoting innovation in the tourism sector in general, and in smart destinations in particular.
The agreement provides for the analysis of innovation as a factor of tourism competitiveness and smart regional specialisation in tourism in Spain, the analysis of innovation in smart destinations, and the identification of knowledge products launched under the DTI Network in the field of innovation.
For the President of SEGITTUR, Enrique Martínez Marín, this agreement is a continuation of the agreement signed in 2021, and its aim is to work with a leading institution in innovation, since innovation is one of the five axes of the smart destination model and it is key to moving forward and incorporating new realities.
The General Director of Cotec, Jorge Barrero, stressed the importance of this collaboration and pointed out that at Cotec “we are determined to develop the corpus of knowledge necessary to improve innovation indicators in tourism, and also actively contribute to the promotion of innovative activities in the sector”.
As a social innovation strategy that helps to respond to the great needs of rural environments, the work carried out within the DTI Network will be analysed to promote the transition of the tourism sector to the circular economy, and the association of tourism with the primary sector. SEGITTUR will also collaborate with Cotec in identifying trends and new phenomena in innovation in local entities.
Finally, Cotec will analyse tourism in a unique way, by incorporating the results in some of the publications that make up the Cotec Report Observatory, for example, the study of the intangible economy in Spain, or the report on the digital economy in Spain.
