Taro Lanzarote and Nicehop have won the Chatbot Tourism Awards 2020 competition, an initiative promoted by SEGUTTIR and Fitur in collaboration with Planeta Chatbot.
The jury, consisting of SEGITTUR, Fitur, Turespaña, IBM, Malaga City Council and Chatbot Chocolate, used parameters such as user experience, usability, fulfilment of the objective for which it was created and cognitive ability on which to base their decisions and vote for the six finalists.
Taro was the winning chatbot within the Tourist Destination category. Since its launch in 2017, it has been improving its ability to understand its users’ intentions, having become a highly useful tool for tourists who want to get to know the island of Lanzarote.
Nicehop was the winner of the Tourist Services category, thanks to its ability to respond to users seeking offers to make a trip.
The competition, the second of which was held during Fitur Know-How & Export, aimed to find the best solutions for chatbots/voice apps and conversation technology, both at a national and international level, employed by tourism destinations and companies to improve tourists’ experiences before, during and after their holidays.
Finalists in the tourist destination category were Canaryfulness, relaxing sounds of nature from the Canary Islands, an Amazon Alexa skill that consists of seven songs representing each of the islands; and Quito Guide, a chatbot on Facebook Messenger that is available to answer any questions about the capital of Ecuador, from culture to places, history and location.
The finalists in the tourist services category were Zalia by Zafiro Hoteles, which has over 200 interactions and helps guests by making room booking and general information processes easier; and Iris by Destinia, which is available on WhatsApp and Facebook and aims to help users find the best offers for both flights and hotels in line with Destinia’s philosophy, and even helps answer questions that may arise during the purchase process, such as how and where to pay.
